My literature review of anything linked to happiness. I have been reading some French authors on the subject, but they have nothing much to add. Probably the best synopsis is from a French scientist - Matthieu Ricard - who became a Buddhist monk. He wrote a book called "Plaidoyer pour le bonheur" ("arguing for happiness"). He says that
a) Happiness is an internal state of mind that allows us to perceive things in a positive state of mind
b) This internal state of mind is only possible if one has knowledge of reality
c) This internal state of mind can be destroyed by negative emotions like anger, jealousy and so forth .....
I basically agree with everything Matthieu Ricard writes except that I disagree with his source of knowledge.
